JOHNSON CITY, TN. - Kansas Wesleyan's Nathan Mesta finished fifth in the finals of the Men's Mile Run at the NAIA Indoor Track National Championships on Saturday at the Memorial Center on the campus of East Tennessee State University.

Mesta finished the race in 4:13.59, just over a second behind Embry-Riddle's (Fla.) Sam Vasquez. Mesta's fifth place finish earned him NAIA All-American honors, making him the second KWU student-athlete in the last three years to earn All-American honors at the NAIA Indoor National Championships. Amy Waterman was the last, earning All-American honors in the shot put in 2008.

"Nathan ran a great race today," KWU coach Jeff Barker said. "He really ran a tactical race, including a 58 second final 400m to earn All-American status. I'm really happy for Nathan, his hard work and dedication has paid off for him. He did an outstanding job representing Kansas Wesleyan. We are very excited for the future as Nathan has very high goals for the upcoming outdoor season and the next two years as well."

Oklahoma Christian's Silas Kisorio won the event in a new Championships record time of 4:03.69.

KWU now heads into the outdoor track season. The first outdoor meet of the season is scheduled for March 19-20 at the Willie Williams Distance Festival at the University of Arizona.
