POINT LOOKOUT, MO - Friends University faced off against Bethel College (Indiana) in the first round of the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Championship. Bethel defeated Friends 77 to 67 in a hard fought game. McPherson College played Dakota Wesleyan University in the Opening Round of the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Championship. Dakota Wesleyan was able to defeat McPherson 79 to 66 in the last game of the first day of the tournament.
 

Friends vs. Bethel (Indiana)

Friends started the game on a 7-2 run on their way to a 28-21 halftime lead. The story of the first half was the defense played by Friends, forcing Bethel into 7 turnovers and limiting Bethel to 7 field goals. Chris Jackson had a nice first half for the Falcons with 9 points and 3 assists. KCAC Player of the Year Romar Jones scored 5 points in the first half despite spending much of the period on the sideline due to foul trouble. Tyler Brown led Bethel College in scoring for the first half with 6 points.

 

The second half was won by Bethel College 56 to 39. The stat line that gave Bethel the edge was free throws. Bethel made 19 free throws in the game compared to Friend's 5 made free throws for a difference of 14 points.

 

The leading scorer for Friends was Chris Jackson. Jackson had 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists in the game. Also scoring in double digits for Friends was Romar Jones, with 15 points, and Mike Hyde with 10 points.

 

Leading Bethel College was Tyler Brown with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Caleb Laidig added 8 points and 8 rebounds in the Bethel victory.

 
With the loss, Friends University was eliminated from the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Championship.
 

McPherson vs. Dakota Wesleyan

Dakota Wesleyan was able to pressure McPherson during the game and took a 9 point lead into halftime. The pressure continued in the second half and McPherson was forced into 18 turnovers in the game that resulted in 26 Dakota Wesleyan points. As in many tournament games, this game was decided at the free-throw line. McPherson 5 out of their 10 free-throw attempts while Dakota Wesleyan made 21 out of their 29 free-throw attempts. McPherson was able to win the rebounding battle and had more of a bench contribution than Dakota Wesleyan, but was not able to overcome the 16 point difference in free-throws. The final score put Dakota Wesleyan on top by 13 points.

 
Aaron Frazier led the Bulldogs in scoring with 18 points. Charles Moore added 11 points and Antowine Lamb contributed 6 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Dakota Wesleyan had five players that scored in double-digits, led by Brady Wiebe's 20 points.
 
The loss eliminated McPherson from the tournament.
