SIOUX CITY, IA - Kansas Wesleyan University was defeated this evening by Morningside College 83 to 45 in the first round of the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Championship in Sioux City, Iowa. Sterling College advanced past the first round, defeating Huntington College 61 to 52, but fell in the second round to Northwestern College 92 to 50.
 

Kansas Wesleyan vs. Morningside

Morningside controlled the entire game, dominating the boards and forcing Kansas Wesleyan into 28 turnovers. Kansas Wesleyan had a hard time scoring the basketball, shooting only 30% on field goals and 20% on three-point attempts. Bench scoring was a big factor in the game as Morningside's bench outscored Kansas Wesleyan's bench 42 to 13.

 

Kansas Wesleyan was led in scoring by Stephanie Frost with 15 points. Jamie Alexander added a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

 

Tanaeya Worden led Morningside in scoring with 16 points. Chelsie Trask also scored in double figures for Morningside with 15 points.

 
The loss eliminates Kansas Wesleyan from the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Championship.
 

Sterling vs. Huntington

Sterling College was able to win both periods in their first round match-up against Huntington College. Sterling was able to take a 7 point first half lead and build it into a 9 point win. The deciding factor was the 15 point advantage that Sterling had at the free-throw line.

 
Sterling College had three players score in double figures. Britany Gasper led the Warriors with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Erica Herman added 16 points while Conference Player of the Year Cathryn Wiebe contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds.
 
Huntington College was led in scoring by Sarah Miller with 16 points.
 
The win advance Sterling to the second round of the tournament.
 

Sterling vs. Northwestern (Iowa)

In the second round of the tournament, Sterling was defeated by Northwestern College. Sterling struggled offensivly the entire game, shooting only 25% from the field while Northwestern scorched the nets shooting 56% from the field. A big Northwestern second half built an insurmountable lead and Sterling fell 92 to 50.

 
Megan Patrick and Cathryn Wiebe led the Warriors in scoring. Patrick had 15 points while Wiebe had 12 points and 8 rebounds.
 
Northwestern had four players score in double digits led by Kendra De Jong and Becca Hurley who each had 19 points.
 
The loss eliminated Sterling College from the tournament.
