LINDSBORG, KS — It’s time for small college basketball competition, as the men’s and women’s
post-season tournaments of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference will be held
on campus sites from Monday, February 21, through Tuesday, March 1.
In regular-season, Tabor College Bluejays won the KCAC men’s championship, and the Tabor College women Bluejays won the KCAC women’s championship.
Now it’s on to the twelfth annual KCAC post-season Basketball Tournaments (men
and women), as "a new season."
Each division of the KCAC ten-team tournaments (men and women) will feature a
“play-in” next Monday (February 21) for the bottom four teams in each division. For the two “play-in” games at North Newton (Bethel College), the women’s game
will start at 5 p.m. and the men’s second-session game will start at 8 p.m.
Continuing in the men’s tournament, the final eight teams will play in quarterfinals
on Wednesday (Feb. 23), the semifinals will be Saturday at 2 p.m. (Feb. 26), and
the tournament championship game will be on Monday (Feb. 28).
In the women’s division the quarterfinals are next Thursday (Feb. 24), semifinals
are Saturday at 7 p.m. (Feb. 26), and the women’s tournament championship game will be played Tuesday (March 1).
All tipoff times are 7 p.m., except for a 2 p.m. start for the men on Saturday; and also for the two “play-in” games at Bethel College in North Newton the women
start at 5 p.m. and the men start at 8 p.m. All of the all tournament games are at campus sites (higher seeds) unless otherwise
announced. (Any tied co-champion teams would meet at neutral sites.)
Both the highest seeded team of each division, based on regular-season standings
of the KCAC Conference men's and women's divisions, and the two post-season tournament
winners will advance to the national championship tournaments of the National
Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
The winners of the KCAC Tournaments will be the first-line affiliate-conference
representatives to the national championship competition of the NAIA Division
II. The KCAC has 10 institutional members, so two men’s and two women’s teams do
advance to nationals. For both men and women, a KCAC second berth in the NAIA nationals goes to the
highest seeded team in KCAC Tournament which does not win the respective tournament
— regardless of finish in the Tournament.
The NAIA-II 14th Annual Men's National Championships Tournament is March 9-15
at College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout (Branson), Missouri. The NAIA-II 14th Annual Women's National Championships Tournament will be March
9-15 at Sioux City, Iowa (Tyson Events Center / Gateway Arena).
The KCAC continues to be the only all-Kansas intercollegiate conference of four-year
colleges and universities.

The KCAC current Tie-breaks and Seedings
Tie-breakers, seedings, brackets. For post-season Tournaments (which does not affect regular-season championships),
the KCAC basketball tie-breaker procedures are in effect as needed — for both
the four-team “Play-in” games for each division on Monday, February 21, and for
the remainder of the Tournaments. Seedings and brackets for the two post-season Tournaments are determined by the
two basketball chairpersons and supervisors (Doug Hall and Joe Zimmerman, men’s
division; Dave Denly and Lonnie Kruse, women’s division), and will be announced on the
KCAC Telephone Hotline (785-227-2857) as soon as available Saturday (February
19) or Sunday following the final regular-season games.
The KCAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Playoff Procedures
Procedure to Determine Qualifiers for the NAIA National Tournament(s). The KCAC Post-season Tournament Champion is the first automatic qualifier for
the NAIA National Tournament. The highest remaining seed in the KCAC Post-season Tournament is the second qualifier
for the NAIA National Tournament.
1. For each KCAC Tournament (men’s and women’s) all ten teams will participate
in the KCAC Tournament, which includes a “Play-in” for the bottom four teams. The winner of #9 at #8 will advance to meet #1, and the winner of #10 at #7 will
advance to meet #2.
2. The top eight teams will continue as bracketed in quarterfinals, semifinals,
and championship games. The seeds will be based on the final regular season conference standings, with
tie-breaker procedures in effect. The highest seed will host each game.
3. To break ties for tournament seedings, the following criteria shall be used,
in order as needed:
a.) Cumulative record versus all tied teams. [First, head to head results.]
b.) Modified Krause System using only KCAC games and final conference records; (5 points, win against a winning team away. 4 points win against a losing team away. 4 points win against a winning team at home. 3 points win against a losing team at home. 2 points loss against a winning team away. 1 point loss against a winning team at home. 1 point loss against a losing team at home.) The record considered is opponents’ overall KCAC record at completion of regular-season. Record of .500 is considered a winning record. The rating is computed by dividing the total points by the number of conference
games played.
c.) Overall winning percentage against NAIA Division II teams.
d.) Overall winning percentage against all NAIA teams.
e.) Coin toss.
4. If conference champions meet in tournament play, the team that won the head
to head conference games will host. If they split in conference games, the game will be played at a neutral site
which will be determined by the KCAC executive committee.
