HILLSBORO, KS - Tabor College President Jules Glanzer announced that Suzanne Unruh, a former softball All-American at Cowley County Community College, has been named the new head coach of the Bluejays' softball team.
 
"Coach Unruh brings a wealth of playing, coaching, and recruiting experience to us," said Vice President of Athletics Rusty Allen. "Her work as an assistant at Cowley County speaks for itself in the form of five conference titles and four national tournament appearances.We are excited for her commitment to excellence and to creating an environment that encourages players and coaches to grow in Christ."
 
Unruh a former Derby High School graduate has spent the past seven seasons as the assistant softball coach at Cowley County Community College, home to one of the most premier junior college softball programs in the country.
 
"I am thrilled to become the new head softball coach at Tabor," said Unruh "I am excited for the opportunity to coach for the Lady Jays Softball program and get to know the wonderful people within the college. My goal is to bring Tabor Softball into the upper level of the KCAC, and compete for conference championships every year."
 
During her time at Cowley County Suzanne helped lead the Tigers to six consecutive Jayhawk East Conference Championships (2004-2009), and four NJCAA National Tournament appearances placing as high as fourth.
 
She also helped develop 10 All-Americans, 16 All-Region players, and six Academic All-Americans while learning under the tutelage of one of the most successful coaches in history Ed Hargrove (955-312 Career Record).
 
Unruh also served as an assistant varsity and head junior varsity coach at Derby High School, as well as an assistant softball coach and interim head coach at Butler County Community College.
 
During her collegiate playing career at Cowley County Unruh was named a two-time NFCA All-American, a two-time NJCAA All-American, and a two-time First Team All-Jayhawk East and First Team All-Region VI performer as both an infielder and outfielder during the 1997 and 1998 seasons.
 
After a successful career at Cowley County, Unruh transferred to Fort Hays State University where she set eight offensive records for the Tigers while earning back-to-back First Team All-RMAC honors in 1999 and 2000.
 
"I am looking forward to helping my players develop to the best of their ability both on the field and in the classroom," said Unruh. "Tabor is a great place to be, and has set high standards in education as well as the character they mold their students into. I want to make sure I carry on that tradition as well as make them the best softball players they can be."
 
Unruh graduated from Cowley County with an Associate of Arts in Graphic Art and Design, and a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Health Promotions and Kinesiology from Fort Hays State University.
 
Unruh and her husband, Mike have been married for three years. They have a daughter Kinlee who is two-years old and a son named Caden who is four months old.
