Wichita, Kan. - In an effort to recognize the achievements of its student-athletes and member institutions the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference developed an award for the institution that performs the greatest over the Fall, Winter, and Spring athletic seasons.  The KCAC Commissioner's Cup will be awarded annually as a symbol of excellence in athletics over 18 championship athletic events. Member institutions earn points for the finish of each varsity team in officially recognized conference sports.

Points are assigned based on regular season finish for football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, men's golf, softball, and tennis.  In cross country, competitive cheer, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field the conference championship meet results will determine point values.  All official conference sports are scored equally. To be a conference sport there must be five member institutions competing in that sport at the varsity level.

Teams who finish in first place will be awarded 10 points, second place finishers nine points and so on until the final place team has been awarded a point value (i.e. if a sport only has seven teams, point values will be given from the maximum 10 to 4).  Ties will be awarded the same amount of points and the next highest finisher will be adjusted downward (i.e. two teams tying for 2nd place would each receive 9 points, then the next highest finisher would be for 4th place and would receive 7 points)

Following the Fall athletic season, Ottawa University sits atop the standings with 47 points.  The Braves were crowned volleyball and football champions, earning them 20 points. Ottawa finished second in women's and men's soccer while finishing third in women's cross country and eighth in men's cross country.

Kansas Wesleyan University trails Ottawa by only two points. The Coyotes own the 2012 KCAC men's and women's soccer championships and in volleyball finished tied for second place with Friends University.  The Falcons, fourth overall with 40 points, also tied for second with Saint Mary in men's cross country and won the women's title (Southwestern College won the men's title).

Third overall and leader in Men's Scoring to date, Tabor College has accumulated 44 points. Although with no Fall championship this year, the Bluejays earn significant points with second place finishes in Football and Men's Soccer, as well as fourth place finishes in men's cross country, women's cross country, and volleyball (tie with Sterling College).

Following the Winter athletic season the Commissioner's Cup standings will be updated with basketball, competitive cheer, and indoor track & field points. The winner of the first KCAC Commissioner's Cup will be announced directly following the Spring athletic season, in which baseball, softball, men's golf, tennis, and outdoor track & field will be scored.

The first KCAC Commissioner's Cup will be awarded formally at the 2012 – 2013 KCAC Sport Management Conference  on Tuesday, August 6 at Southwestern College.
