Canon Fields

Kansas City, Mo. - Canon Fields of Kansas Wesleyan has been tabbed the NAIA National Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Fields was selected based on his performances from Dec. 31 - Jan. 6 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group winners.

Fields, a 6-foot junior guard from Topeka, Kan., put up averages of 29 points, 12 rebounds, 8.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game, while shooting 56.8 percent from the field in two games last week. On Jan. 3 at Bethel (Kan.), Fields led the Coyotes from a 22-point first half deficit to a 90-74 victory. In that contest, he poured in 36 points and recorded 14 rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

Two days later, Fields went for his ninth-consecutive game with 20-plus points in a 99-91 overtime loss at Sterling (Kan.). He recorded the school's first triple-double since Jan. 28, 2002 with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. That effort was also the first triple-double in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference since Nov. 29, 2007 and only the sixth in both divisions this season.

Currently in Division II ranks, Fields is sixth in scoring (23.1 ppg) and 13th in both steals per game (2.6) and assists per game (5.3).
