Wichita, Kan. – For the second week in a row All five KCAC Matchups including KGSO 1410 AM Game of the Week are on Wednesday Night this week. Tabor College is alone atop the KCAC Standings through 10 games. Friends University and Southwestern College are just one game back.

    

KGSO 1410 AM Wednesday Night Game of the Week: Southwestern (13-6, 8-2) at Kansas Wesleyan (11-9, 6-4)

 

Southwestern

Last week: 1/16 def. Saint Mary 67-57; 1/19 L. at Friends 61-52

Upcoming: Next 1/23 at Kansas Wesleyan 6:00 p.m.; 1/26 vs. Sterling 5:00 p.m.

  

In the loss to Friends, Southwestern was held to its lowest point total since the team's season-opener. Jessica Hobbs and Annjelina Robinson led the team in scoring with 9 points each. Against Saint Mary, Jordan Hobbs scored 13 points and Zefiryn Bryan had 11 points and 9 rebounds to lead the Moundbuilders to the victory. Southwestern defeated Kansas Wesleyan 85-56 in the team's first meeting this season on December 1.

   

Kansas Wesleyan

Last week: 1/16 L. at Tabor 72-67; 1/19 def. Ottawa 70-60

Upcoming: Next 1/23 vs. Southwestern 6:00 p.m.; 1/26 vs. Saint Mary 2:00 p.m.

  

Vanessa Kresin (18), Jessica Olson (13), and Stephanie Frost (11) led Kansas Wesleyan to a victory over Ottawa last week. Alecia Smith collected 11 rebounds in the victory, and increased her season-average to 8.7 rebounds per game, which leads the team.  The Coyotes currently have the third highest scoring offense in the conference, scoring 66.4 points per game.

Sterling

Last week: 1/16 def. Bethany 78-73 (2OT); 1/19 L. vs. Tabor 84-56

Upcoming: Next 1/16 at Tabor 6:00 p.m.; 1/19 at Ottawa 5:00 p.m.

  

Cassi Spleiss averaged 15.5 points last week, and has scored in double-figures in five straight games. Lori Dauer scored 21 points in the victory over Bethany, her second 20-point game of the season. Dauer shot 11-14 from the free throw line, 5-10 from the field, and had 9 rebounds. Kayla Eilert, the team's leading rebounder, scored 12 points and collected 11 rebounds. The Warriors defeated Ottawa in the team's first meeting December 1, 66-58.

Bethel (6-13, 2-8)

Last week: 1/16 def. McPherson 53-50; 1/19 L. at Saint Mary 56-51

Upcoming: Next 1/23 vs. Bethany 6:00 p.m.; 1/26 at Friends 5:00 p.m.

  

Bethel broke its four game losing streak last week against McPherson, defeating the Bulldogs 53-50. Katie Regier scored 18 points in the victory, a season-high. Bethel lost to Bethany 61-48 in the first meeting this season.

   

Bethany (2-18, 1-9)

Last week: 1/16 L. vs. Sterling 78-73 (2OT); 1/19 L. at McPherson 56-46

Upcoming: Next 1/23 at Bethel 6:00 p.m.; 1/26 vs. Tabor 5:00 p.m.

  

Bethany is in the midst of a 10-game losing streak, and has not won since defeating Bethel on December 1.  Last week Tanya Garner averaged 19.5 points per game, and 10 rebounds per game, including a double-double against McPherson with 15 and 12.

   

Friends (14-7, 8-2)

Last week: 1/16 def. Ottawa 63-46; 1/19 def. Southwestern 61-52

Upcoming: Next 1/23 at Saint Mary 6:00 p.m.; 1/26 vs. Bethel 5:00 p.m.

  

Friends increased its winning streak to six games, and are tied for second place in the conference. Tina Fakahafua led the team with 17 points in its victory over Southwestern. Sarah Munds added 12, and Abril Marshall scored 11. Marshall has scored in double-figures her last three games, and leads the team in scoring at 12.9 points per game.

  

Ottawa (7-13, 3-7)

Last week: 1/16 L. at Friends 63-46; 1/19 L. vs. Kansas Wesleyan 70-60

Upcoming: Next 1/23 vs. Sterling 6:00 p.m.; 1/26 at McPherson 5:00 p.m.

  

Ottawa dropped both of its games last week, and sit in seventh place in the conference. The Braves are averaging 58.5 points per game this season, and give up 62 points per game. Last week against Kansas Wesleyan Amber Ramsey scored a season-high 28 points on 8-12 shooting, and added 7 rebounds.

   

McPherson (12-8, 6-4)

Last week: 1/16 L. at Bethel 53-50; 1/19 def. Bethany 56-46

Upcoming: Next 1/23 at Tabor 6:00 p.m.; 1/26 at McPherson 5:00 p.m.

  

McPherson split its games last week, but has won three of its last four. Tayler Puttergill scored 19 points with 9 rebounds in the team's win against Bethany. McPherson leads the conference in total offensive rebounds with 819, and are second in offensive rebounds per game with 41.

   

Saint Mary (7-14, 2-8)

Last week: 1/16 L. at Southwestern 67-57; 1/19 def. Bethel 56-51

Upcoming: Next 1/23 vs. Friends 6:00 p.m.; 1/26 at Kansas Wesleyan 2:00 p.m.

  

Saint Mary split its game last week, but snapped a three-game losing streak with a victory against Bethel. Shelby Watson scored 12 points to lead the team, shooting 6-7 from the free throw line. Jolynn Glorioso scored 10 points, her first double-digit scoring game of the season.

   

Tabor (13-7, 9-1)

Last week: 1/16 def. Kansas Wesleyan 72-67; 1/19 def. Sterling 84-56

Upcoming: Next 1/23 vs. McPherson 6:00 p.m.; 1/26 at Bethany 5:00 p.m.

 

Following its loss to Friends two weeks ago, Tabor won both of its games last week and remain in first place in the conference. The Bluejays are led by Janelle Rust. Rust scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds against Sterling, and narrowly missed another double-double against Kansas Wesleyan, finishing with 9 points and 12 rebounds.
