The 60 and 200-meter sprints will have a new look in 2013. Clarence Anderson (Ottawa) and Colton Siler (Southwestern) are both gone as the KCAC's top two sprinters over the past four years.   Anderson and Siler combined to win 11 of 12 KCAC Outdoor sprint championships and all three indoor sprint championships last year, but have finally exhausted their eligibility.  Topping the KCAC list this winter in the 60-meter list are newcomers Perry Joseph (McPherson-SO) and Carlos Cox (Friends-FR), both of whom have season bests just 0.01 second off the provisional national qualifying time.

Alex Grier (Tabor-JR) comes in with the top KCAC 200-meter time this winter while Southwestern ranks #1 and #2 in the 400 this winter with Brandyn Willard (JR) and Hunter Cline (SO), who finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 2012 KCAC Indoor 400 meters.

Cedrique Smith (Sterling-SR) nailed an NAIA National automatic qualifier and now ranks #4 nationally in the 60m Hurdles after running the 55m barriers last weekend at the Nebraska Wesleyan Quad.  Do not overlook  Johannes Riemann (Bethany-SO) who was the runner-up in the KCAC 60m and 110m Hurdles, indoors and out last year, respectively, and as 2013's second ranked hurdler appears ready to challenge for the top step on the podium.

60m Dash: NAIA "A 6.92/NAIA "B" 6.95;  2012 KCAC Champion – Clarence Anderson (Ottawa) 6.88

200m Dash:NAIA "A" 22.21/NAIA "B" 22.36;  2012 KCAC Champion – Clarence Anderson (Ottawa) 22.07

400m DashNAIA "A" 49.25/NAIA "B" 49.70;  2012 KCAC Champion – Clarence Anderson (Ottawa) 49.88

60m Hurdles:NAIA "A" 8.25/NAIA "B" 8.40;  2012 KCAC Champion – Dominick Eastman (Tabor) 8.35

Middle Distance

Defending champion Nathan Vogel (Tabor-JR) leads the KCAC 600-meter list narrowly over Robyn Haynes (Bethany-FR).  The Swedes' James Farris (Bethany-SO), who finished fourth in the 800 at the 2012 KCAC Indoor and leads the conference at both the 800 and 1,000-meter distances this winter and, along with Chris Penner (Sterling-SR) who finished third in the KCAC Outdoor 800 meters, could be in the hunt for KCAC titles in any of the three middle distance events.

Frank Adelman (SR) and Nick Haines (St. Mary-FR) already have provisional national qualifying times in the 1-Mile Run, but Conner Drendel (Southwestern-SR) could pull a surprise in the longer two events as could Garrett Daugherty (Tabor-SO) and/or Jeremiah Gerardy (Bethany-SO).

600m Run: NAIA "A" 1:21.44/NAIA "B" 1:22.80;  2012 KCAC Champion – Nathan Vogel (Tabor) 1:23.59

800m RunNAIA "A" 1:56.00/NAIA "B" 1:57.25;  2012 KCAC Champion – Chris Lopez (Tabor) 1:57.86

1,000m Run:NAIA "A" 2:31.90/NAIA "B" 2:33.80;  2012 KCAC Champion – Aaron Potter (St. Mary) 2:37.42

1-Mile Run:NAIA "A" 4:20.60/NAIA "B" 4:23.20;  2012 KCAC Champion – Javier Ceja (Friends) 4:23.69

Frank Adelman (Southwestern-SR), winner of the 2012 individual KCAC Cross Country title, has the KCAC's best time at the 3,000-meter distance and is closing in on an NAIA National qualifying mark.  Colton McNinch (Southwestern-JR) returns as the defending champion at 3,000m, an event that could see as many as five of the top six finishers from last year's KCAC Indoor returning.  While only a handful of conference athletes have run the 5,000-meters to this point in 2013, Joel Allen (Tabor-SO), Eric Lightfoot (Southwestern-SO) and Trey Bruton (Southwestern-JR) have all been under 16 minutes in the 5k this winter, but we will likely see most of the top finishers from the past fall's KCAC Cross Country and the 2012 Outdoor track 5k and 10k events go to the start line for these events.

3,000m Run – NAIA "A" 8:43.00/NAIA "B" 8:46.70;  2012 KCAC Champion – Colton McNinch (Southwestern) 8:54.44

5,000m Run – NAIA"A" 15:05.12/NAIA "B" 15:19.00;  2012 KCAC Champion – Colton McNinch (Southwestern) 15:02.31

Derrick Toney (McPherson-SR) enters this weekend's championships as the KCAC's top returning NAIA place winner from 2012.  The defending KCAC Indoor High Jump champion and already a provisional national indoor qualifier, Toney finished sixth at the 2012 NAIA National Indoor meet before moving up to second place at the NAIA National Outdoor championships after winning his second straight KCAC Outdoor championship.  Garrett Sharp (McPherson-JR), who finished third at both the KCAC Indoor and Outdoor High Jump in 2012, joined Toney as a qualifier for last year's NAIA Indoor.  Ryin Brandt (Ottawa-JR) placed third at the 2012 KCAC Outdoor Pole Vault and is in hot pursuit of an NAIA qualifying mark after clearing 15'1.5" two weeks ago.

The horizontal jumps appear to be wide-open events.  Derrick Toney (McPherson-SR) and Carlos Cox (Friends-FR) lead the conference performers in the Long Jump.  Artrail Skipper (Southwestern-SO) leads the conference with a provisional national qualifier in the Triple Jump and Aziz Spellman-Smith (Tabor-SR) ranks second.  Do not be surprised to see either Skipper and Spellman-Smith or both also challenge for the KCAC title in the Long Jump.

High Jump: NAIA "A" 2.04m(6-8.25)/NAIA "B" 2.00m(6-6.75);  2012 KCAC Champion – Derrick Toney (McPherson) 2.11m(6-11)

Pole Vault:NAIA "A" 4.75m(15-7)/NAIA "B" 4.70m(15-5);  2012 KCAC Champion – Nathan Nonhof (Friends) 4.25m(13-11.25)

Long Jump:NAIA "A" 7.10m(23-3.5)/NAIA "B" 7.01m(23-0);  2012 KCAC Champion – Ira Autrey (Bethany) 7.13m(23-4.75)

Triple Jump:NAIA "A" 14.30m(46-11)/NAIA "B" 14.00m(45-11.23);  2012 KCAC Champion – Dominick Eastman (Tabor) 14.24m(46-8.75)

Paul Rotering (McPherson-JR), winner of the last two KCAC Outdoor Javelin titles, tops the KCAC in the Shot Put this winter after placing sixth at last year's KCAC Indoor.  Sam Blecha (Ottawa-SR) was third in both the KCAC Indoor and Outdoor Shot Put last year and returns, but does not have a 2013 mark.  Michael Klaassen (Tabor-SR), who won the 2012 KCAC Indoor 35-pound Weight Throw and placed fourth in the indoor Shot Put, leads the conference in the Weight Throw for 2013. Blecha and Klaassen will also likely be in the mix for the KCAC Shot Put crown.

Shot Put:NAIA "A" 15.60m(51-2.25)/NAIA "B" 15.25m(50-0.5); 2012 KCAC Champion – Quentin Benning (Friends) 16.26m(53-8.25)

Weight Throw:NAIA "A" 17.60m(57-9)/NAIA "B" 16.50m(54-1.75);  2012 KCAC Champion – Michael Klaassen (Tabor) 16.37m(53-8.5)

The relays are always interesting at a conference championship as teams juggle line-ups and run events they have not earlier in the season in an attempt to pick up any stray points in the team championship race.  Friends and Southwestern have the top pre-KCAC times this winter in the 4x400 and Distance Medley Relay, respectively, while Southwestern is the only school with an entry mark in the 4x800 relay.

4x400m Relay: NAIA "A" 3:21.10/NAIA "B" 3:22.42;  2012 KCAC Champion – Tabor 3:26.95

4x800m Relay: NAIA "A" 7:56.06/NAIA "B" 7:59.99;  2012 KCAC Champion – Tabor 7:59.22

Distance Medley: NAIA "A" 10:23.50/NAIA "B" 10:26.00;  2012 KCAC Champion – Southwestern 10:45.47
