Women's Basketball - Mon, Mar. 4, 2013

Lindsborg, Kan. - Bethany College announces the resignation of Head Women's Basketball Coach Jim Campion.

"Coach Campion took over a program that was in a state of transition and provided much-needed continuity during his tenure. We thank him for his service to Bethany College and wish him well in his future endeavors," says Interim Athletic Director Scott McClure.

Campion, a 1975 alumnus, became head coach mid-season in 2008. Most recently, Campion served as athletic director of Salina Central High School before retiring at the end of the 2006-2007 school year.

Campion also served as girls' basketball coach at Southeast of Saline for 16 seasons and seven seasons at Salina Central. He led the girls' team for four years and led the boys' team for three years. In addition, Campion has coached football and track and field at both Southeast of Saline and Sacred Heart High School in Salina, where he began his head coaching career.

Campion's college coaching experience was serving as an assistant football coach for the Swedes under Ted Kessinger during the 1990 season.

In addition to his coaching experience, Campion has had a long successful career as a teacher. He has taught for more than 30 years as a physical education and science instructor.

Campion holds a bachelor's degree in physical education and health from Bethany College and a master's degree in educational administration from Kansas State University.

The search for a permanent replacement will begin immediately. "We strive for a seamless transition for our current and incoming student-athletes as we find Coach Campion's successor," says McClure.
