Wichita, Kan. – Three returning 2012 – 2013 All-KCAC First team members highlight the 2013 -2014 Preseason All-KCAC Women's Basketball Team. Last year's first team selections, Janelle Rust (Tabor), Alecia Smith (Kansas Wesleyan), and Nikki Lewis (Tabor) were voted to the team unanimously by the KCAC Head Women's Basketball Coaches.

  

Janelle Rust, 2012-2013 KCAC Player of the Year, played in 24 of Tabor's 30 games before her season was cut short due to a knee injury. Rust was the conference leader in Scoring per Game (15.38 PPG), Field Goal Percentage (46.2%), and Three Point Percentage (42.9%). She was second in Rebounds per Game (7.62), third in Total Scoring (369), and fourth in Double-Doubles (5). Rust was also the team leader in all categories listed plus Rebounding (183) and Blocks (14). 

 

In her career at Kansas Wesleyan (61 games) Alecia Smith has eclipsed 600 points and 400 rebounds.  Last season she led the KCAC in Scoring (440 points, 14.2 PPG), Rebounding (244, 7.87 RPG), and Double Doubles (7).  Smith was first in Rebounds per Game and second in Scoring per Game.

 

Nikki Lewis ranked first in Assists (163) in the KCAC last season, sixth in the NAIA.  She was second in Assists/Turnover Ration (1.85), third in Free Throw Percentage (75.2%), and third in Steals (70). Lewis was the second leading scorer on the Bluejays squad, averaging 11.5 PPG through 30 games.

 

All returning ALL-KCAC First Team, Second Team, Third Team, and Honorable Mention 2012-2013 performers were nominated for preseason honors.  Head Women's Basketball Coaches also had the opportunity to nominate other key members from their teams.  The team (listed below) is made up of seven seniors, two juniors, and one sophomore. Of the 10 athletes listed, eight are from Kansas.  In addition to Rust, Smith, and Lewis, Amber Ramsey (Ottawa) and Sarah Munds (Friends) were selected unanimously. Southwestern leads the way with three athletes listed.


The coaches and media Preseason KCAC Polls will be released on Tuesday, October 8th, following the annual KCAC Basketball Media Day.  Media day will be conducted in Wichita, Kansas at the Courtyard at Old Town on October 8.  Live audio and video including press conferences and one-on-one interviews will be featured on the KCAC Digital Network.
