Winter Standings

Wichita, Kan. -  Friends University leads the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference's Winter Commissioner Cup standings with 35 points. Southwestern College comes in second with 33 points. Tabor College and McPherson College tie for third place, tallying 27 points apiece.  The Falcons were crowned regular season men's basketball champions. They also finished second in women's basketball, and third in men's and women's indoor track & field.

Southwestern owns the 2014 KCAC men's and women's indoor track & field championships as well as the women's basketball title. The three championships gained them 30 of their 33 winter points.

McPherson posted second place finishes in men's and women's indoor track & field. The Bulldogs finished tied for sixth in women's basketball (Sterling, Bethel) and seventh in men's basketball. Tabor finished third in women's basketball and fourth in men's track & field.  The Bluejays were fifth in both women's track & field and men's basketball.

In scoring to date, Tabor College has accumulated 71 points over fall and winter. The Bluejays won the inaugural KCAC Commissioners Cup and are currently four points behind last year's pace. Tabor tied for the 2013 volleyball championship (Kansas Wesleyan), earning them 10 points.  The rest of their points have come from quality finishes across the board, including second place in football, third place in men's soccer, and third place in women's basketball

Friends and Southwestern are tied for second overall and trail Tabor by a point. Strong winter seasons fueled both the Friends and Southwestern jump to second place. The bulk of the Falcons points came from two winter third place finishes, one second place finish, and one championship (men's basketball). The Moundbuilders ran the table in men's and women's indoor track and also won the women's basketball championship.

The winner of the first KCAC Commissioner's Cup will be announced directly following the spring athletic season, in which baseball, softball, golf, tennis, and outdoor track & field will be scored.

The second KCAC Commissioner's Cup will be awarded formally at the 2013– 2014 KCAC Sport Management Conference on Tuesday, August 5 at Sterling College.

About the Commissioner's Cup

In an effort to further recognize the achievements of its student-athletes and member institutions the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference developed an award for the institution that performs the greatest over the fall, winter, and spring athletic seasons.  The KCAC Commissioner's Cup will be awarded annually as a symbol of excellence in athletics over 18 championship events. Member institutions earn points for the finish of each varsity team in officially recognized conference sports.

Points are assigned based on regular season finish for football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, men's golf, softball, and tennis.  In cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field the conference championship meet results will determine point values.  All official conference sports are scored equally. To be a conference sport there must be five member institutions competing in that sport at the varsity level.

Teams who finish in first place will be awarded 10 points, second place finisher receive nine points and so on until the final place team has been awarded a point value (i.e. if a sport only has seven teams, point values will be given from the maximum 10 to 4).  Ties will be awarded the same amount of points and the next highest finisher will be adjusted downward (i.e. two teams tying for 2nd place would each receive 9 points, then the next highest finisher would be for 4th place and would receive 7 points).
