Wichita, Kan. – Dexter Davis of Friends University has won his second Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week Award for 2014. Seth Derr of Bethany College has been named Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for the third time this season. Both student-athletes were selected from a pool of nominees by vote of conference Sports Information Directors for their performances during the week of April 21-28.
Davis, a Senior from Rex, Georgia, finished first out of 18 runners in the 100m dash at the Southwestern Relays in Winfield, Kansas on April 26. Davis ran a time of 10.52, which is the top time in the KCAC this season, the second fastest in Friends University history, as well as the fifth best time in the NAIA in 2014. Davis met the NAIA's "A" Qualifying Standard, ensuring himself a trip to the NAIA Outdoor National Championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama on May 22-24.
Derr, a Freshman from Phillipsburg, Kansas, finished first out of 29 competitors in the Collegiate Division of Men's Javelin at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on April 25. Derr set a new Bethany College record with a throw of 63.87m (209' 6.6"), besting a field that was comprised of student-athletes from NCAA Division I programs.
