HUTCHINSON, Kan. - Ryan Weedin and Jesse Kearns went 3-for-5 each with two runs scored, while Chris Luera hit the Pirates' first home run of the Region IV tournament, boosting Park to a 9-4 win over Bethany in Hutchinson, Kan.

Park (29-16) also had 8.2 innings of eight-hit pitching from Bo Prather, who struck out seven and allowed four runs, none of which were earned. Bethany (39-15) had a 3-for-4 outing from Hop Sullivan to go with a 2-for-5 day form Danny Fernandez.

The Pirates got on the board in the second with a Brett Gordon single to center, scoring Nick Kouratou, and in the third, Kouratou posted a two-RBI single followed by a Luera sac fly to make it 4-0.

Kearns and Chris Evans had RBIs in the fourth, scoring Weedin and then Kearns, and in the fifth inning, Luera pushed the lead to seven with a blast to right field for his fifth home run of the year.

The Swedes touched the board for the first time in the sixth when Sullivan had an RBI doubled, later scoring to make it 8-2 on a double by Justin Long.

Kearns singled home Weedin in the eighth to add an insurance run for the Pirates, and despite a two-RBI single from Harold Holbert, Prather held on to improve to 6-4 on the seasonwith help from Arturo Garcia, who finished the ninth inning.

Bethany's Chris Atkins took the loss, going four innings to move his record to 2-7 on the season.

The Swedes will next play Bellevue in an elimination game for the right to play Park in the region final, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday in Hutchinson.
