KANSAS CITY, MO - David Birch of Ottawa University has been selected as the NAIA Men's Basketball Division II Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 5-11.
 
Birch, a 6-1 senior guard from Olathe, KS, etched his name in the Ottawa single-game record books in two home victories.

First, David knocked in 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting in the 85-60 win over Bethany College. He added five rebounds, three assists and two steals. In the 92-86 win over McPherson College, he posted a school-record 44 points, thanks to a 14-for-23 effort from the floor. He went 12-for-13 from the charity stripe and 4-for-9 from beyond the arc. He became the first Brave to hit for 40 points in a game.
 
For the week, he averaged 33.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals and shot 23-for-36 (.639) overall. He has now scored over 10 points in the last 10 games including 20-plus in the last five contests.
 
Among NAIA statistical leaders, he is fifth in the country in scoring average (23.4 ppg) and seventh in free throw percentage (.887).
