WICHITA, KS - The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference showed its commitment to Breast Cancer Awareness by contributing to the THINK PINK Campaign established by the WBCA/Kay Yow Breast Cancer Research Fund.
The KCAC "PINK OUT "events occured at ten different women's basketball games during the month of February as part of the 2008-2009 regular season. Fans, players, coaches and officials were encouraged to wear pink to one or more of the ten "PINK OUT" games of their choice to show their support toward Breast Cancer Awareness.
In the first year of this collective effort, the KCAC raised a total of $1,445.75 for breast cancer research. Money was raised through donations from fans, players and coaches, along with the net proceeds from the purchasing of pink t-shirts and pink hoodies from
Signify U - the official online apparel store for the KCAC. All money collected will be donated by the KCAC on behalf of its 10 member institutions to the WBCA/Kay Yow Breast Cancer Research Fund. The KCAC will continue the THINK PINK Campaign next year and for many more years to come.
Gayla Soyez, Head Women's Basketball Coach for Friends University and Women's Basketball Chair for the KCAC had this to say about the collective participation from all ten schools in the THINK PINK campaign.
"It is great to see our schools in our conference come together for a common goal; to help in finding a cure for cancer. We have all lost someone very dear to us with breast cancer and it's great to see the strides that have been made but we hope and pray for a complete cure,"
