SALINA, KS - Kansas Wesleyan University has named Rob Ozga as its new golf coach, replacing Ryan Showman who has stepped down to concentrate solely on his duties as assistant coach for the women's basketball program.

 

Ozga is no stranger to Kansas Wesleyan University, spending two seasons as an assistant coach for the softball team and most recently as the pitching coach for the KWU baseball team this season.

 

"I am exciting to move into this new opportunity for KWU," Ozga said. "I look forward to getting out on the recruiting trail and working to bring in high caliber golfers that will help us take the programs to a high level of competition."

 

Ozga feels his experience with both men's and women's programs that have won conference championships at the collegiate level will be beneficial to him. "Having coached both championship men's and women's teams at this level, I know what it takes to manage both the men's and women's teams and bring in quality athletes that will help us build our program for years to come."

 

Ozga competed one season for the KWU golf team after completing his baseball career with the Coyotes, while completing Ozga is no stranger to KWU, playing baseball for the Coyotes while completing his Bachelor degree in Athletic Training in 2007. He will graduate on Saturday with an M.B.A. Degree with Sports Management Emphasis from KWU.

 

"Rob is a great addition for KWU Athletics," KWU Director of Athletic Programs Matt Williams said. "He has a breadth of knowledge of recruiting, and golf experience which will be extremely beneficial in the advancement of our golf programs."

 

In 2007, Ozga received the KWU Hall of Fame award, which is awarded to an individual who displays outstanding academic achievement as well as service to the community.

 
"I am looking forward to getting started right away," Ozga said. "It's a great time for all of our athletic programs at Kansas Wesleyan, and I am looking forward to building a winning tradition for the golf programs as well."
 
Ozga began his golf duties on May 1.
