WICHITA, KS - Carol R. Swenson, the retiring sports information director at McPherson College, has been named Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference SID of the Year for 2008-2009. The award was announced Wednesday at the KCAC Annual Sports Information Workshop by KCAC Commissioner, Dr. Scott Crawford.
The annual award was established by the conference during the past academic year to recognize an active Kansas Conference sports information director for his/her outstanding contributions to the profession and to the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Swenson was nominated by LaMonte Rothrock, who at the time was McPherson College athletic director and dean of students. Selection was made by a committee comprised of all KCAC institutional SIDs, the conference SID, the commissioner, and supervisor of the KCAC SID committee.
Swenson has been the only chairperson of the new KCAC institutional sports information directors committee, established in 2004. The incoming committee chairperson for the next academic year is Katie Tooley, SID at Ottawa University.
The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference will make the SID of the Year award each year, according to Crawford.
